From Research to application
Scientific discoveries help improve our quality of life and contribute to the well being of society. In order to maximize the return to society of the public investments made in research, more emphasis should be paid at the overall process of technology transfer.
|
Our goal is to identify research results with great commercial potential, demonstrate their technical and commercial viability and transfer the resulting applications to industry and, ultimately, to the markets. |

SOVAR (Research Application Development Society) is one of four university research valorization entities created in the Province of Quebec with the financial support of Valorisation-Recherche Québec (VRQ).
In 2000, 10M$ was awarded to SOVAR by VRQ and 1,5M$ by Canada Economic Development in 2002. SOVAR is a limited partnership with Université Laval,
the
Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec (CHUQ) and the Institut universitaire
en santé mentale de Québec as limited partners.
SOVAR uses its team of specialists and its investment capacity in syndication with other investors to support the development of emerging technologies.
Our team works in synergy with researchers in order to properly identify commercial applications for their discoveries, define the steps needed to demonstrate technical and commercial viability, determine the financial needs and help raise the required funding for the project. SOVAR works in close collaboration with researchers all along the project. At the end of the process, SOVAR manages the technology transfers to existing or spin-off companies.
