New Idea to Innovation grant worth $124,966 awarded to Professor Mario Leclerc at Université Laval

SOVAR is pleased to announce that Professor Mario Leclerc of Université Laval’s Chemistry Department has received a grant worth $124,966 from the Idea to Innovation (I2I) Program (Phase 1) of the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC).

The funding will be used to industrialize a technology developed by Professor Leclerc’s team, which consists in a new robust and versatile method called direct heteroarylation for the production of polymers. This technology currently used in a laboratory setting leads to the production of polymers with unique features of interest to the organic electronic industry, such as a higher molecular weight and greater purity, all at lower production costs.

A recent market study revealed interest in this type of product and the relevance of scaling-up its development and validating its quality consistency. If the project is conclusive, given the market potential, the next step will be launch a spin-off company to commercialize the technology.
